This policy applies to Tuner by Band Companion for iOS and Android ("Tuner"), provided by Nicky Studios. Band Companion is a separate app with its own privacy policy.
Microphone and your tunings
Tuner requests microphone access only when you choose to allow it. It processes the incoming sound on your device to estimate pitch. It does not record, save, upload or share microphone audio. The reference tone is generated on your device.
Your custom tunings, selected preset, preset order and calibration preference are saved in a local database on your device. We do not run a Tuner account or sync these settings to our servers. Removing the app or clearing its data removes these local settings, subject to your device's backup behaviour.
Usage and crash diagnostics
We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand which Tuner features are used and Firebase Crashlytics to find and fix failures. These services may process an app or installation identifier, app and device details, operating system version, usage events, crash time and diagnostic information. A crash report may include a stack trace. These identifiers are pseudonymous, not fully anonymous.
Our own Tuner events are limited to feature actions and coarse session information. We do not add your name, email address, custom tuning names, preset notes, detected pitch, frequency, audio samples or search text to those events. The Firebase SDK may also collect its standard automatic events and technical metadata. We do not use an advertising SDK or request an advertising identifier for Tuner.
Google processes this diagnostic data for us under its Firebase terms. Read Firebase's privacy information for details of its processing and security measures.
Band Companion
The link to Band Companion may open that app, or its store page if it is not installed. Tuner does not send microphone data or custom tuning information through this link. The stores may provide aggregate referral reporting under their own policies.
Retention and your choices
Local tunings and preferences remain on your device until you edit or delete them, clear app data, or uninstall Tuner. Our Google Analytics property retains event data for 2 months and user data for 14 months, with user-data retention resetting on new activity. Google's published Firebase information says Crashlytics retains crash traces and associated identifiers for 90 days before removal begins. Aggregate reports may remain without an installation identifier.
You can deny or revoke microphone permission in your device settings; pitch detection then cannot work. To ask us to delete diagnostic data that we can identify, or to remove data stored on your device, follow the steps on our Tuner data deletion page. Because Tuner has no account, we may need information from your device to locate an installation's records, and may not be able to associate a report with you.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, restrict or object to processing of personal data. You can raise a privacy concern with us or lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
